The 2012 Shetland Lambs

A ram year for the Shetlands, too, but not as "lopsided" as with my Icelandics.  But WOW - the variation of these fleeces is amazing!  All are spotted, but varying from almost solid to all types of "flashy" coats.  Sometimes I think my favorites are the HST (I have both black and moorit this year!), but then there's my amazing katmoget.  And the fleckets.  And the ones that are solid except for amazing facial markings.  I'm also very pleased with the fleeces this year.  I'm partial to the ones that are somewhere between the "kindly" and the "primitive" as they are more versatile.  At least that's my opinion.

SO...HERE THEY ARE.  You can find more details and pictures on my website: www.trinityfarm.net

ENJOY!

Bellwether Lewis
A black sponget ram twin, brother of Harris (below).  A striking little guy with wide horns, and a masked “Zorro” face.  Fleece will mature to a steel gray, long and primitive with a slight crimp.  Born 4/16/12. Sire is Twin Springs Forvik (emsket); dam is Twin Springs Bernera.

Bellwether Harris
A moorit sponget ram twin. Brother of Lewis, and with an equally amazing face.. His fleece is very interesting – underneath the moorit tips, it is dark gray mixed with dark brown, not like the typical musket. He may also carry the modifier from her sire, although it is not showing at this point.  Her mother had this coloration pattern as a lamb as well, and her morrit lambs also have all had this patterning..  His mature fleece will be on the primitive side of intermediate, with moderate crimp. Nice wide horns. Born 4/16/12. Sire is Twin Springs Forvik (emsket); dam is Twin Springs Bernera.

Bellwether Stour
A black smirslet bielset sokket (HST) twin ram, brother of Tronda (below). Fleece is of the kindly type, short with high crimp.  May carry moorit and the modifier from his sire. Born 4/17/12. Sire is Windswept Boron (moorit flecket); dam is Whispering Pines Lilac (black smirslet sokket).

 Bellwether Tronda
A black yuglet flecket twin ewe, sister of Stour.  A really lively little girl who was very small at birth, but has caught up wonderfully.  Her fleece is on the primitive side of intermediate, very white and very black.  Born 4/17/12. Sire is Windswept Boron (moorit flecket); dam is Whispering Pines Lilac (black smirslet sokket).

Bellwether Holm
Gray yuglet flecket twin ram, brother of Flada (below).  His fleece is a primitive type with moderate crimp, very long, silky and black! Wide horns. Born 4/19/12. Sire is Windswept Boron (moorit flecket); dam is Whispering Pines Myrtle (gray flecket).

Bellwether Flada
A striking moorit yuglet flecket twin ewe, sister of Holm.  Her fleece is s nice chocolate brown under the sun-bleached tips, on the primitive side of intermediate as it is long with low to moderate crimp.  Born 4/19/12. Sire is Windswept Boron (moorit flecket); dam is Whispering Pines Myrtle (gray flecket).

Bellwether Orseval
A moorit flecket twin ram, brother of Rubba (see below). He is almost a caped flecket – like a caped flecket with a white cap.  He has a terrific soft kinkly fleece, and really wide horns.  Born 4/25/12. Sire is Windswept Boron (moorit flecket); dam is Twin Springs Hirta (gray caped flecket).

Bellwether Galti
A gray sponget ewe twin, sister of Scambro. She looks like her older sister Fetlar, and will probably have the same wonderfully soft crimpy fleece. Must carry moorit, may carry modifier.  Born 4/26/12.  Sire is Twin Springs Forvik (emsket); dam is Minwawe Seraphim (musket flecket).
